VIZIO P-Series Quantum X 65-inch Class 4K HDR Smart TV

If you’re looking for a reasonably-priced QLED that rival’s Samsung’s Q70T series, the VIZIO P-Series QX can save you some cash. It’s the most high-performing model VIZIO has introduced so far, and unless you review TV’s for a living, it’s unlikely you will find it lacking as most content looks fabulous on this screen. Chromecast and Apple airplay 2 are built right in, so you can stream content directly from your phone or iPad, and it rivals its competitors in terms of brightness.

Ports:

The VIZIO P-Series has a respectable array of ports, with five HDMI connections. Three are mounted along the bottom, and two are on the side. There’s a coaxial connection for an antenna or cable in the back, along with analog and digital audio outputs. The VIZEO features a full-array LED backlight with 384 active dimming zones that automatically detect light and offer some genuinely deep blacks. The audio quality is fair. The Vizeo houses two 10-watt speakers but no preset sound modes. This is probably the main downside to the P-series, and most users eventually end up investing in a soundbar, which improves the quality immensely.

SAMSUNG 65-inch Class QLED Q70T Series TV (2020)

The new Samsung Q70T might be the most formidable option on our list for die-hard gamers. It features low image lag and a 4K 120fps HDMI port to accommodate your next-gen gaming console. In addition to the 65-inch, it’s available in various screen sizes, including 55, 75, 82, and 85, and is equipped with Samsung’s Tizen smart platform. When it’s not in use, you can set it to revert to ambient mode, so, instead of a blank screen, the screen displays images or graphics that mesh into a room’s background. Another cool feature is that it has Mobile Multi-View with Casting, allowing you to view images from your smartphone and TV simultaneously.

Ports:

For connectivity, the Q70T series has four HDMI inputs, with one of them eARC compatible and one 4K/120fps ready. The others are 4K/60fps enabled. It also has two USB ports, optical digital audio output, Ethernet, Bluetooth, and dual-band WiFi wireless.

Performance:

While there are some minor issues with viewing angles and backlighting, they are offset primarily by this model’s superb motion handling and gorgeous picture. The detail is stunning, although the screen is best viewed in a room with some lighting. In movie mode, the Q70T has a Delta-E rating of 1.6, meaning that the colors’ accuracy is right on the mark. TCL 75R617 75-Inch 4K Ultra HD Roku Smart LED TV (2019 Model)

TCL’s 75-inch R617 model is ideal if this is your first 4K TV and you’re on a budget. While it comes in 55 and 65-inch models as well, the 75-inch gives you the most bang for your buck. For starters, it has 160 contrast control zones, Dolby Vision, and a full-array panel. It’s also surprisingly user-friendly, and if you’ve used Roku already, you’re already halfway there. Plus, if you plan on hooking up your PS4 Pro or Xbox One X, You’ll find it partners with these consoles perfectly.

Ports:

The port array features everything you would expect—Three HDMI 2.0 ports with HDCP 2.2 and one with HDMI ARC, 3.5mm Headphone Jack, one USB 2.0 port, and an AV In port that works great for older devices.

While you might expect that the lower price would mean a less-than-stellar picture, you would be wrong. Content plays bright and colorful, and according to the manufacturer, the contrast performance on the TCL 6-Series exceeds their main competitors by 300 percent. While this is probably a stretch, we can say that it does offer outstanding picture quality. The only real complaint is that the TCL has only three motion settings, but even that’s not a deal-breaker. The audio is decent as well, with two downward-firing 8-watt speakers that will definitely provide all the sound you need. However, if you’re looking to really bring down the house, you will probably want to invest in a soundbar.

Compatibility:

Roku is consistently popular year after year. Intuitive and familiar, this latest model even has Chromecast built right in. It’s not tied to any particular platform, so it works with all your favorite streaming services, and you can even download the Roku TV app on your phone to manage your feed. If you’re a gamer, you will naturally appreciate the super-fast response time, FreeSync support, and low input lag. Performance:

With state-of-the-art backlighting technology and a 4K AI Quantum processor, this model’s picture quality is beyond perfect. The audio is unrivaled as well, but if you’re looking for a thumpy bass, you will want to invest in a soundbar. The unit will also support a low-latency Bluetooth headset if you prefer a more immersive listening experience.

Hisense 65H9F 65-inch 4K Ultra HD

If you want to outfit your home theater with an inexpensive QLED 4K TV, the Hisense H9F might be ideal. Google’s Android TV platform supports the set, and it has Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant voice control skills, so it’s undoubtedly smart. This model also offers full-array backlighting with enhanced color formats like Dolby Vision. It’s probably not going to blow you away with gaming performance, but unless that’s what you’re in the market for, the Hisense is a reliable budget option.

Ports:

The array of ports is more than adequate to meet the needs of everyday users. It has four HDMI 2.0a ports, two USB ports, digital-audio output for a sound system and a mini headphone jack, and a set of traditional composite RCA-audio and -video jacks. It also features Ethernet, WiFi, and Bluetooth.

Performance:

The Hisense H9F uses quantum dot film and has a full-array backlight with 132 local dimming zones. Dolby Vision and HDR 10 are the two main color formats. It also boasts preset picture modes, and if you happen to adjust them to your exact liking, you can save the settings to avoid doing it all again next time.

The audio is satisfactory and has seven predefined settings to choose from, depending on the content you are watching. Considering that the TV is only two-inches deep, it understandably lacks dynamic range and bass, so if you are a stickler for sound, you may want to invest in a soundbar.

Compatibility:

Like Sony, Hisense works off the Android TV platform, supporting a wide range of apps with Google Assistant built right in. The menus are easy to follow by scrolling vertically, and the remote has dedicated buttons for YouTube, Google Play, Netflix, and Vudu. Sony Master Series XBR-65A9G 65-Inch TV

Sony’s Master Series A9G OLEDs are a bit pricier than some on our list, but worth every penny for those looking for the best 4K TV’s available. The color and contrast are sheer perfection, and the audio is impressive as well. Add to this the hands-free Google Assistant, and you have yourself an incredible system. Plus, the minimalist simplicity means it will look terrific in any setting.

Ports:

Ports on the A9G are in two different panels on the back of the set. The left-facing panel features one HDMI port, two USB ports, a 3.5mm jack for headphones, and a 3.5 mm jack for composite video. On the second panel, which is a bit farther back, there are three more HDMI ports, one of which is an HDMI eARC connect if you want to hook up a soundbar. There’s also another USB port, an RF connector for antenna, an optical digital-audio connection, and an Ethernet port. It also features 802.11ac WiFi and Bluetooth 4.2 for wireless audio. We think it’s safe to say that users won’t be disappointed with the array of connectivity options.

Performance:

When it comes to performance, the A9G is in the elite range. You simply can’t get a better picture in a TV under $4k, and we would argue that it can’t be rivaled in more expensive models either. The TV supports HDR10, Dolby Vision, and Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG) content in HDR.

As far as audio goes, that too is remarkable. Sony’s Acoustic Surface Audio+ sound is incredible. It uses two actuators and a pair of 10-watt subwoofers behind the glass, turning the panel into a vibrational speaker surface. It’s impressive, to say the least, as each sound feels like it originates directly from the object or person on the screen. It’s incredibly realistic.

Compatibility:

The Sony A9G runs off Android TV, and Chromecast is built right in, so you can stream video directly from your phone to the display. It comes out of the box with tons of services and games, and features a full list of apps like Amazon Prime, Hulu, Netflix, YouTube, Pandora, Spotify, Google Play Music, and more.

LG C9 Series Smart OLED TV – 65-inch 4K Ultra HD (2019)

LG’s C9 series is essentially the predecessor to the LG CX series, so it comes in at a slightly lower price point than the newer model, but without sacrificing many of the same great features as the updated LG. If you are in the market for a 4k but you’re on a budget, this is one to consider, since the only significant difference between this model and the CX is the CX has Dolby vision IQ and slightly better-integrated speakers. However, the C9 outshines the CX when it comes to bandwidth due to its HDMI 2.1 interface.

Ports:

The port array on the C9 features all the essential connections, including three USBs, an RF connector and tuner for antenna, optical output for older audio systems, and composite input for older hardware. The big deal that you will only find on this 2019 model is the four HDMI 2.1 ports. They are capable of supporting 4K at 120 Hz and can handle soundbars and surround sound with ease.

Performance:

With smooth action, optimum brightness, and vibrant colors, the picture is stunning. In fact, so stunning that LG made no changes to it when they produced the 2020 upgrade. There is not much more you can say about the visuals. They are simply impeccable.

Two 40-watt speakers and a 20-watt woofer offer all the sound you will probably need for most applications, although the audio does tend to distort when it’s up on high. A soundbar will resolve this effectively.

Compatibility:

LG uses the webOS interface, which utilizes ThinQ AI to accomplish tasks like tailor brightness, content recommendations, and organizing apps. The TV also comes equipped with the option of using Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, or both. It even has a home dashboard that acts as a smart hub for your household smart devices, from doorbells, to thermostats, to kitchen appliances. With features like that, you may actually never need to leave your couch again.

The Stats:

Screen size: 65 inches

Display Type: OLED

Ports: 4 HDMI 2.1, 3 USB

Audio: 2.2 channels, 2 x 40-watt speakers w/20-watt woofer

Smart Platform: WebOS 4.0

TCL 65-inch 5-Series 4K QLED Roku Smart TV

Last up is TCL’s 65-inch 5-series QLED TV. You can’t beat the price on this model, which features good picture quality and great black uniformity and contrast ratio. It’s a budget option that looks like its premium counterparts and is quite attractive when wall-mounted.

Ports:

There is a nice selection of inputs around the back, including three HDMI (HDMI 2.0 and HDCP 2.2) ports, an analog video input, one 2.0 USB port, Ethernet, a headphone jack, optical digital audio output, and one RF input.

Performance:

The TCL 5 series delivers a picture that most will find pretty good. It’s not exceptional, but at a quarter of some of its competitors’ prices, you can’t expect perfection. Response time for smooth content motion is decent, and the overall contrast quality and brightness means that it performs well in darkly lit rooms as well as those that are well-lit.

The bass is relatively weak, and the main volume can get lost in rooms with a lot of ambient noise.

While the audio is adequate on this machine, we recommend a soundbar to enhance the overall experience.

Compatibility:

In terms of compatibility, this smart TV is supported by Roku, one of the most user-friendly platforms on the market. Even those who have never owned a smart tv will find the interface extremely easy to use, and the impressive array of apps to choose from will ensure that your screen time is entertaining and varied.

While the remote does not support voice control, tech geeks can download the Roku app to their smartphones to use voice search. You can also pair your Amazon Echo or Google Home speakers with the TCL 5-series.

The Stats:

Screen size: 65 inches

Display Type: OLED

Ports: 3 HDMI, 1 USB

Audio: 2 x 8-watt speakers

Smart Platform: Roku

Size: 56.9 x 11.6 x 34.9 inches
